2019 FALL Classes

the woodshop

Course Overview

The current series of courses I am offering are mostly geared for the beginner and novice level woodworker. Each class will aid you in developing a fundamental comprehension of woodworking, while simultaneously being able to create something that is unique to you. Each course will involve understanding and using a variety of machinery and tools. Classes are open to anyone and everyone (above the age of 16).

No previous woodworking experience necessary! All of my current classes require attending a safety orientation class before the courses begin, which can be found listed below.

My shop is located at 1415 Laurel Street in Mid City, Baton Rouge, near downtown - where all classes will take place.

Wondering what to take first or which class best suits you? I am available to discuss options based on what you would like to accomplish. Feel free to call or email. Contact info below.

Current Available Courses

$ 220 = $200 (class + shop fee) + $20 (materials fee)

(1x) 4 Hour class

     The Utensil class is designed towards building basic skills in shaping and sculpting wood in a more organic context. Through a variety of techniques, students will become comfortable using chisels, rasps, the bandsaw, and power sanders to form and refine a series of kitchen utensils. Join us and experience the therapeutic art of shaping wood. Each student will have time to make at least 2 utensils.

$250 = $210 (class + shop fee) + $40 (materials fee)

(1x) 4 Hour class

     Students will be provided a variety of hardwoods to choose from to design and create their own cutting board(s). Techniques that will be covered include: Material preparation, gluing solid woods together, as well as shaping and sanding techniques. Each student will create a roughly 12" X 16" cutting board to take home.

$400 = $360 (class + shop fee) + $40 (materials fee)

(3x) 3 Hour classes - meets once weekly for 3 consecutive weeks,

same time and day of the week

     This class is designed for those with limited woodworking skills who want to feel confident in taking on their own basic projects at home. Each student will gain the essential skills to plan and execute future projects on their own in a small home environment. Students will learn to use the basic tools and the readily available materials necessary to build projects out of wood. When complete, each participant will have a completed custom project to take home.
